On February 2024 The New Yorker asked me to do an illustration for a tote bag and a few months later they decided to use one of the discarded ideas to make a new bag released as an additional incentive to subscribe. The sketch selected was a person attached to his dog by his own scarf. The illustration worked well to illustrate winter season but I was given the challenge to find a new idea for the other side: an illustration conceptually connected with the scarf idea that also talks about the spring. The final solution was a person wrapped in a leash while the dog is chasing a butterfly, which is a subtle nod to the first cover of The New Yorker.
